We are the Phi Alpha Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, a dedicated group of women who have proudly served Charles County and the surrounding Southern Maryland area since March 16, 2007. Guided by our principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood, we focus on empowering our community through our signature initiatives like: maternal health resource fair & community baby shower, scholarship programs, youth mentorship, adopt-a-school, and eldercare programs.

Our Chapter History
On March 16, 2007, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated expanded its presence into Southern Maryland with the chartering of Phi Alpha Zeta Chapter in White Plains, Maryland.
Six visionary women founded the chapter with a shared commitment to upholding the ideals of Our Five Pearls and serving the needs of their community. The charter members were Vaughnika (Johnson) Briggs, Aisha (Clarke) Johnson, Esq., Dr. Tanisha Sanders, Dr. Keyona Thomas, Lena Tolliver, and Michelle West.
Since its founding, Phi Alpha Zeta has worked to address the social, economic, and health disparities impacting Southern Maryland communities through Zeta Phi Beta’s national programs, direct community outreach, and partnerships with local organizations. As the chapter has grown, so has its visibility and impact throughout the region.
Today, Phi Alpha Zeta is comprised of accomplished women across education, law, business, government, and other professional fields who continue to embody the principles of service, scholarship, sisterhood, and community impact. Through continued outreach and collaboration, the Ladies of Phi Alpha Zeta remain committed to making a meaningful difference throughout their community.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is an international women’s organization that has established itself as the foremost network of socially and politically conscious activists working to empower disenfranchised communities.
Shortly after World War I, during a time when women were still fighting for the right to vote, during the worst and longest economic recession to ever hit the United States, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was born.
On January 16, 1920, five trailblazers at Howard University in Washington D.C.: Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings and Fannie Pettie Watts, sought to depart from established organizations and founded a new sisterhood predicated on the precepts of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood.
Only Zeta has been and continues to be the “Sorority of Firsts” creating best-in-class educational programming models like Stork’s Nest and Z-HOPE and a family of youth and adult auxiliary groups to advance our local communities.
With more than 120,000 members initiated, Zeta has become one of the world’s foremost movements for social justice and civic change. Members of Zeta are called to a higher purpose of Finer Womanhood. Zeta women are achievers and leaders in every field in more than 800 communities across the United States, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Europe.
